When we began collecting school supplies, we hoped our community would help us make the start of the school year a little easier for local families. The response has touched us more than we can say.

Thanks to the generosity of our families, friends and community partners, we received more than 18 donated backpacks—along with enough school supplies to fill them and have them ready for children who need them.

Each backpack represents more than notebooks, pencils, folders and crayons. It represents a child walking into school feeling prepared, a parent carrying one less financial burden and a community choosing to look out for one another.

This is exactly what community is supposed to look like.

We Rock the Spectrum – Cedar Rapids was created to be more than a place for children to play. We want to be a trusted resource where all families feel supported, included and welcomed. Seeing so many people contribute to this effort reminds us how much can happen when a community comes together around its children.

The filled backpacks and additional school supplies will be available during our Back-to-School event this Sunday. Families who could use a little extra support are welcome to stop by and select what they need, while supplies last.

To everyone who donated a backpack, picked up an extra package of pencils, brought in folders or contributed in any other way: thank you. Your generosity will make a real difference for local children as they begin a new school year.

We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for one another.
